Decedent Affairs

The Decedent Affairs Office provides Veterans or their families, staff,  county services, and hospice services “pre-death” or “post-death” guidance regarding possible Veteran’s options, benefits, resources, and general information. Decedent Affairs does not  provide funds for burial expenses, cremation or mortuary services, nor set up burials nor military honors. Decedent affairs registers deaths within the healthcare system and cancels appointments.  Registering a death also stops medications from being mailed out.

Decedent Affairs provide additional services for coordinating death certificate input with mortuaries, body donation programs, and doctors. Participates in scheduling autopsies, body and tissue donations, and releasing remains to mortuaries when a death occurs in our medical center. Decedent Affairs coordinates death issues with the medical examiner when deaths are under investigation, and also coordinates final arrangements when a veteran’s remains goes unclaimed in our medical center.
