The winners of the 2018 Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Community Partnership Challenge will be honored in a virtual awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. Dr. Carolyn Clancy, VHA’s Executive in Charge, will present the awards to the three winning VHA facilities: VA San Diego Healthcare System, Central Texas Veterans Health Care System, and Phoenix VA Health Care System.

The annual contest spotlights successful partnerships between VA medical facilities and nongovernmental organizations and brings attention to the collaborative efforts taking place in local communities to serve Veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors. Under this year’s Return on Partnership contest theme, VA medical facilities were encouraged to submit entries that demonstrate how their partnerships are paying off for Veterans and advancing VA’s mission.

Congratulations to the VA San Diego Healthcare System for their partnership with Team AMVETSTM which has helped more than 5,000 Veterans since its inception in 2012. The Welcome Home program helps Veterans through donations of home furnishings including furniture, household items, cooking utensils, and appliances. The program specifically targets Veterans who are exiting homelessness and moving into new housing that is likely unfurnished. Team AMVETSTM has donated approximately $2.5 million to serve Veterans in Southern California.

The other two winning facilities are the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System for their partnership with the Central Texas Foodbank and the Phoenix VA Health Care System for their work with the Arizona Coalition for Military Families.
