VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS) will be holding a “Go Red for Women” informational event on Feb. 7 to raise awareness for the number one killer of women in America: heart disease. With nearly one in three deaths in women attributed to this disease, the event aims to raise awareness among women and promote wellness as a preventative measure. The informational event will take place from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the San Diego VA Medical Center multipurpose room.

"Heart disease still kills more women than all cancers combined,” said Jennifer Roberts, women’s program manager at VASDHS. “February is Women's Heart Awareness month and the employees at VASDHS are excited to provide an educational event to raise awareness. We will be informing our women Veterans about prevention strategies, the warning signs of heart disease, and heart healthy recipes."

The Go Red for Women Event will feature guest speaker Dr. Denise Barnard from the VASDHS Cardiology Division and a heart healthy food demonstration by the nutrition department.
