Emergency Care in Non-VA Facilities
(To potentially be eligible for Emergency Care in an in-network non-VA Facilities, you must be enrolled in the VA health care system)
In the event of a medical emergency, and you got admitted to an in-network non-VA facility, you, a representative, or provider must notify the VA within 72 hours of your admission at a non-VA facility. Doing so allows the VA to assist you in coordinating necessary care or transfer and ensures that the VA's administrative and clinical requirements to pay for the care are met. If you refuse to be transferred to the closest VA Medical Center, the VA will not pay any further care.To notify the VA, please utilize any of the following options:

- Phone: 1-844-72HRVHA or (844-724-7842)
- Appropriate VA official at the nearest VA medical facility
