Health Care for Homeless Veterans

The VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS) partners with the local community to offer a wide array of special programs and initiatives designed to help homeless Veterans live as self-sufficiently and independently as possible.

The Department of Veterans Affairs’ Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) programs comprise the largest integrated network of homeless treatment and assistance services in the nation. As a component of this network, VA San Diego strives to provide a continuum of service – from outreach to permanent housing – to our homeless Veteran population.

Aspire Center

The San Diego VA Medical Center is developing a specialized 40 bed program homeless prevention program services to OEF/OIF/OND Veterans with focus on post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury treatment.  A unanimous vote of support was received from the San Diego City Council on Tuesday, 7/24/12.   

The Aspire Center looks forward to opening their doors in the Old Town area in Summer of 2013.
