29th Annual Care and Share Drive: Helping Veterans in Need
VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS) has begun its annual “Care and Share” Drive to bring joy to local needy Veterans and their families in San Diego County this holiday season. The drive includes a food drive, bake sale, silent auction, and piggy bank coin drive to raise donations needed to support over 1150 expected recipients this year. The following is a list of our upcoming events to support the drive, and further details for employees, patients, and drive recipients.
The food drive, which started on Nov. 6 and will end on Dec. 11, is aimed at collecting boxed foods and other non-perishable goods to include in donation boxes. Donations bins can be found in each department at the San Diego VA Medical Center, and both employees and patients are encouraged to donate. Please check the expiration date before donating.
Bake Sale/Baked Potato Sale
San Diego VA Medical Center will hold a bake sale and baked potato sale in the multipurpose room on Nov. 29 from 8 a.m. to noon for the bake sale and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the baked potato sale.
The silent auction will be on Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the San Diego VA Medical Center multipurpose room, and will feature a variety of art and decorative items donated from around the medical center.
Piggy Bank Coin Drive
Piggy banks have also been set up throughout VA San Diego Medical Center to collect donations for the drive. Patients and employees are encouraged to donate.
If you would like to provide cash donations to go toward the purchasing of turkeys and other food items, please contact Robert West at (858) 552-1821. Checks or cash will be accepted.
